Does experience matter?

Not all osteopaths practice Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment(OMT). There are over forty different techniques. Time allowed for treatment is sometimes limited in certain settings. Most DO’s site the lack of time, lack of confidence in their skills and the difficulty obtaining re-imbursement as the most common reason for not using their skills. This background information provides the most likely reasons why experience matters! Like everyone who works with their hands, the more one treats, the more efficient and skillful the doctor becomes. Recognizing that there are some typical patterns of dysfunction across all people, but not everyone responds the the same techniques is helpful. Focusing on the patient response to treatment is necessary.
