More research points to systemic and brain changes from OMT due to effects of OMT and the bodies own cannabinoid release. The areas of the brain effected by Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) are structures in the frontal areas and deep brain structures. This explains some of the effects of OMT that patients experience and express post treatment. Unfortunately use of exogenous cannabis has a detrimental effect on these same areas due to excess cannabinoids in the system from exogenous sources, leading to well documented side effects. With OMT there are no unwanted cannabinoid side effects. OMT cannabinoid release does induce happiness, sleepiness, and decrease in blood pressure.
