Is OMT real or fake?

I have continued to read conflicting reports that about the effectiveness of OMT. This may reflect on reports that 90% of Osteopaths feel that they don’t have time for OMT, or felt not prepared to use OMT. I realize that being in a medical practice may inhibit the use of OMT. There are time constraints and reimbursement issues. The practice of OMT is largely based on the skill of the doctor and how often OMT is performed. Even if performed frequently, the skill of the doctors hands coupled with the ability to sense the forces at play in the body depend on training and refining the sense of touch and observation. OMT is therefore an art form of medical practice.

My experience in a practice based on only OMT points to the effectiveness of OMT. An effective OMT practice not only effects patients positively but quickly. This is important for patient wellbeing and acceptance. I believe that the faster a patient achieves normality for themselves the better. My hope is that individuals that receive OMT have lasting positive effects that are persistent.

I have patients that chronically choose OMT for their aches and pains, some even after recovery from surgery. Surgery is by necessity a forced change in structure of the body. Obviously, that yields changes in function. That is exactly what OMT was designed to help. The fact that I have returning patients points to the effectiveness of OMT. My patients and I feel it is worth the time and money to keep you functioning effectively the most efficient way!
